CTD SVP Builder

Sea-Bird CTD · Valeport SVX2 → Sound Velocity Profile → APOS .USR & Fusion .PRO

1 · CTD profile (.cnv / .hex / .000)

Drop a .cnv, Sea-Bird .hex or Valeport .000
Sea-Bird _DAT.cnv · raw SBE 19plus .hex (converts in-browser — needs the .xmlcon in step 2) · Valeport SVX2 .000 · click to browse · or paste
No data loaded.

2 · Con file (.xmlcon) — verify serial · required for .hex

Sea-Bird only (SVX2 files don't use a con file). For a .cnv this is optional — it cross-checks the con serial against the serial baked into the file. For a raw .hex it is required: the con file supplies the calibration coefficients used to convert raw counts to T, C, P and must match the instrument serial.

3 · Bin average

Auto keeps the longer limb either side of max pressure. Mean bins the downcast and upcast separately, then averages the two profiles bin-by-bin (equal weight per limb — cancels descent/ascent sensor lag). All pools every sample.

SV equation
"As processed" uses the sound-velocity column SBE wrote into the .cnv. The other two recompute SV from the temperature, salinity & pressure columns (T90→T68). Procedure: Del Grosso for casts deeper than 1000 m.
Extend cast
For when the worksite is deeper than the cast and a re-cast isn't possible. Equation holds the deepest measured T & S constant and applies the SV equation's pressure dependence, anchored to the last measured value (no step at the splice). Gradient continues the SV slope of the last 20 m. Extended points are dashed on the chart, flagged in the verdict, and included in the .usr / .pro.
Comparison overlays
Overlay previous SVPs (.usr) on the chart — multiple allowed — with difference metrics vs the current cast. Overlays are assumed to be in the same units as the display.
