The terminal for checking the string before the job depends on it.
WoodTerm is a serial and network terminal for offshore survey device testing: open a COM port, a TCP connection or a UDP socket (unicast, multicast or broadcast), watch the data come in with NMEA checksums validated inline, log it to file, repeat it out over UDP, and replay a recorded protocol file to stand in for the device. Sessions are tabs; configurations save as JSON. The Android version does the same from a phone with a USB-to-serial adapter.
A single file on Windows, nothing to install. Free; the source of both versions is on GitHub.
Serial and network terminal for survey devices
What it does
Everything a device test needs, in one window.
GNSS, gyro, MRU, USBL, echo sounder, DP string: plug it in, see it, check it, log it, forward it — and when the real device is not there yet, play back a file as if it were.
Four transports
Serial with any baud, framing and flow control and live port enumeration; TCP client with auto-reconnect; TCP server that accepts one client at a time; UDP unicast, multicast and broadcast with interface binding.
See it clearly
ASCII, hex or mixed views, line or raw framing, timestamps, control characters dimmed, NMEA checksum flags, pause and resume, copy as text or hex.
Log it
Raw and timestamped logs with size-based rotation, automatic or custom file names — the evidence for the mobilisation report.
Send and repeat
Send ASCII or hex payloads with the line ending you choose, on repeat if needed; forward everything received out over UDP, per line or raw.
Simulator
Replay a protocol file — one sentence per line — through the connected transport with an interval, looping and timestamp stripping. Build the protocol library once, use it on every job.
Windows and Android
The Windows build is one self-contained file. The Android app (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose) brings the same features to a phone with a USB-C / OTG serial adapter: FTDI, CP210x, CH340, PL2303, CDC-ACM.
Download
WoodTerm 1.5 for Windows and Android.
Free, with the source of both versions on GitHub. Every file is attached to a GitHub release, so the download is fast from any port and the release history is public.
