WoodSolutions. Survey software written offshore, for the people on rotation.

WoodSolutions is the product family of Whoastra Labs: a survey DVR, a DTM viewer, a pipeline progress tracker, a personnel-on-board tracker, a device terminal, a remote desktop and a video broadcaster. Each one was written on the vessel by a working survey party chief to replace something that was slow, rented or missing — and each runs on the PC you already have, offline, with one installer.

Four of the seven are free. The DVR and the DTM viewer have published pricing and three free days. The source of three of them is on GitHub.

LIVEin daily use on survey spreads and a supply vessel

Made for the way a spread actually runs. Written offshore, on rotation, by a survey party chief who got tired of hauling rack units, waiting on rental desks and keeping the job in a spreadsheet.

The products

Seven tools for the survey office, the DVR seat and the vessel.

Each has its own page with the details, screenshots and downloads. They work on their own and they work together: WoodDVR records what WoodLineTracking tracks, WoodDTMViewer opens the DTMs the survey produced, WoodVideo Broadcast puts the nav screen on the DVR, WoodTerm checks the string before the job, WoodVNC gets you to any PC on the spread, WoodPOB keeps the vessel's people straight.

WoodDVR
Survey DVR for ROV spreads

Records up to four ROV cameras with the data string, overlay, narration and position fixes, and plays it all back with the free Reviewer.

  • 4 cameras, 30-minute sections, survey overlay burned in
  • Averaged position fixes, spans, reports, broadcast
  • Free WoodDVR Reviewer for the office and the client rep
WoodDTMViewer
DTM viewer and measuring tool

Opens the big gridded DTM .xyz exports straight from processing, several surveys in one window, to measure in 2D and 3D, compare surveys, put routes, drawings and waypoints on top and hand a GeoTIFF to the nav software.

  • 13 million points at 0.2 m open in about 12 seconds, cells kept as exported
  • Point, offset, distance, profile and area in 2D and along the surface in 3D
  • View-only access for the office over the network, GeoTIFF for NavView
WoodLineTracking
Pipeline survey progress tracker

Tracks ROV pipeline inspection line by line from the live data string: runs, coverage, gaps, events, bathy, processing and the daily reports.

  • GVI/CP, MBES, MAG or any survey, per line
  • Up to three live data strings, one per vehicle
  • Daily Progress Report and Line Status Sheet from the same numbers
WoodPOB
Personnel on board for vessels

Who is aboard, where they sleep and where they muster: profiles, certificates, customs documents, crew changes, station bills and the printable reports.

  • Live POB dashboard, profiles with photos, certificates and passports
  • Decks, rooms and bunks on a ship-oriented diagram
  • Muster lists, station bills and seven printable reports
WoodVNC
Browser remote desktop for a private network

Every computer runs its own WoodVNC and every dashboard lists all the others. No central machine, no cloud, no device cap, one installer.

  • Self-hosted, browser based, nothing to configure
  • Every machine finds the others on the network
  • Optional dashboard password, per-user install, no admin prompt
WoodTerm
Serial and network terminal for survey devices

Serial, TCP and UDP in one terminal for testing GNSS, gyro, MRU, USBL, echo sounders and DP strings: NMEA checks, logging, a serial-to-UDP repeater and a protocol simulator. Windows and Android.

  • Serial / TCP client / TCP server / UDP incl. multicast
  • NMEA checksum validation, hex and ASCII views, logging with rotation
  • Replay a protocol file to stand in for the device
WoodVideoBroadcast
Any window or monitor to RTSP, UDP and the browser

Turns a nav or survey screen into a live stream for VisualSoft, VLC, DVRs and browsers, and keeps it running for weeks.

  • RTSP on 8554, UDP MPEG-TS multicast, MJPEG in the browser
  • Captures a window even when it is covered, or a whole monitor
  • Self-healing: restarts the encoder, re-finds the source, stays on air

What we are about

Whoastra Labs: an AI-native software studio run from the survey office.

Whoastra Labs LLC is Woody Straley — a subsea survey party chief with 22 years offshore — building the software the job needs, with AI engineering assistants doing the typing. The brief for every Wood product is the same: it has to work on the vessel, on the PC that is already there, with no internet, no rack unit and no rental desk; and when something is missing at 2 a.m. it gets built that rotation, not next year.

01

Built offshore, on the job

Every product started as a problem on a real spread: a DVR that cost a rack unit and a rental, a progress workbook nobody trusted, a POB list on a whiteboard. They are shaped by the people who use them, the same week they ask.

02

Offline first, your PC, your data

Nothing phones home. Data stays on the vessel in plain folders you can copy and back up; installers upgrade in place and never touch it. A view-only port or a free Reviewer gives the client rep what they need without giving them the keys.

03

AI-native, honest about it

The Wood products are written with AI engineering assistants under a party chief's direction — that is how one person ships a DVR, a tracker and a crew system in one season. Every release is tested against real job data before it goes to the vessel.

Licensing, plainly. WoodVNC, WoodTerm, WoodVideo Broadcast and the WoodDVR Reviewer are free. WoodDVR and WoodDTMViewer are licensed per PC with published pricing and three free days. WoodLineTracking's source is public under a personal-use licence; WoodPOB is free to evaluate. Commercial and fleet licences for any of them come from Whoastra Labs.
Support. Email goes straight to the author, usually answered within a day — from the vessel if that is where he is. Bugs found offshore are fixed offshore.

Downloads

Every WoodSolutions download, on one page.

All files are attached to GitHub releases under github.com/WHoastra: fast from any port, release notes and history in the open. Windows installers upgrade an earlier version in place and never touch your data. SmartScreen may warn on a new publisher's installer — More info, then Run anyway.
