Remote desktop · Private network · Self-hosted · Browser based
Every PC on the spread, one click away, from any browser.
WoodVNC is a self-hosted remote desktop for a private network. Every computer runs its own WoodVNC and its own dashboard, and every dashboard lists every other machine on the network — there is no central server to set up and nothing to configure. Run the same installer everywhere; if one computer is off, the rest carry on. No device cap, no cloud, no account.
Installs per user with no administrator prompt; one optional question (a dashboard password) and it is running. Free; the source is on GitHub.
Browser remote desktop for a private network
What it does
Set it up by running the installer. That is the setup.
WoodVNC was built for survey spreads where the nav PC, the DVR PC, the processing PC and the party chief's laptop all need to see each other without IT, without the internet and without a licence server.
A mesh, not a hub
Each WoodVNC announces itself on the network and keeps a list of the others; open any dashboard and every machine is there within seconds. One PC going down takes nothing else with it.
Nothing pre-installed
Node, Python and everything else are inside the package. Download, run, answer the one question, done. Upgrades keep your account, machine names and approvals.
Browser based
The dashboard and the remote screen open in any modern browser on the network — a laptop, a tablet, the client rep's PC — with no client software.
Private by design
Nothing is relayed through the internet; an optional dashboard password locks it down; Windows Firewall only needs to allow it on the private network.
Per-user install
Installs to the user's own program folder with no administrator prompt — the usual story on a locked-down vessel PC.
Open source
The code is on GitHub: read it, build the installer yourself, or just download the release.
Download
WoodVNC 1.0.0 for Windows.
Free, with the source on GitHub. Every file is attached to a GitHub release, so the download is fast from any port and the release history is public.
